STOW FINISHED 2ND OVERALL!!!!!!!!
Now for Bigs. Again, Bigs is a very long tournament that lasts 2 days. Hopefully the computerizing of tabbing will cut down on some time, but still expect there to be quite of bit of waiting. Make sure you have plenty to occupy yourself. Unlike in years past, ALL rounds are open for observation this year (this includes Prelims). In IE, there will be 4 preliminary rounds, a Semifinal, and a Final. The cumulative total of all your scores throughout the tournament will determine the National qualifiers. Don’t psych yourself out!!!! This is any other tournament, with people you’ve seen before. Treat the rounds as any other round- your goal should be to be in the top 3 in your round, just as it is all year.
IMPORTANT: Pursuant to NFL National Tournament rules, in Individual Events, if you go over the time of 10:30 (7:30 in Extemp), you are NOT allowed to receive a 1 in the round. This rule may be waived in Semis and Finals because of audience reaction. Still, if you are finding yourself running longer, you want to work on making sure you can deliver your piece/speech well within the limit.
I AM SO PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. THE SUCCESS WE HAVE HAD THIS YEAR MAKES ME PROUD TO BE A COACH, AND TO REPRESENT STOW-MUNROE FALLS. BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES AND YOU WILL GO FAR!!!!!!!!!

Wooster Results and Littles Information
Our first official tournament after break, Wooster, was a great success for us! We had several teams and individuals do well, and we placed 6th overall at a tournament that is bigger than States. Be PROUD of your accomplishments- placing so high means that every squad contributed points. There were some random ballots as always, but we have the chance to really polish performances at Berea. Wooster results, as promised…
Karuna Ramcharran- 2nd Place, OO (but first in our hearts!)
Zach Weigel- 2nd Place, Student Congress
Matt Molinaro/Max Williger- Semifinalists, 2 Person Policy
Max Williger- 8th Speaker
Matt Molinaro- 2nd Speaker
Matt McBurney/Rebecca Messinger- Semifinalists, Public Forum
Maggie Miller- Semifinalist, Prose/Poetry
Carleigh DeAngelis- Semifinalist, Original Oratory
Soundarya Narayan/Chris Vasquez- Quarterfinalists, Public Forum
A few words about Little Districts. which we will likely go over in the coming weeks.
1. Good news- we have state qualifiers already with our 2 Person Policy team of Matt Molinaro and Max Williger, who have Pre-District Qualified (PDQ’d) six times this year at six tournaments! We’re already ahead of the game!
2. Individual Events- We are limited per the OHSSL Constitution to take a maximum of four (4) competitors in each event. This means that in larger squads (Prose/Poetry, Humor, Oratorical Interp, etc.) choices will be made by the coaches as to which competitors will attend the tournament. The roster for Littles will be posted after the Berea tournament. If you are not chosen, you will be one of our alternates should a competitor have to bow out. Please, DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED if you don’t find yourself on the attending roster. Many of our team members are novices who will no doubt receive this opportunity in the future. We are proud of each and every one of you, and if we could take everyone, we certainly would.
3. In all events (including the debates), there exists the possibility of “run-off rounds.” These occur in a situation when one or more individual/team have tied for either a State qualification spot or a State alternate spot. A tab official will come to the cafeteria (the most likely holding place for everyone at Firestone) and announce any run-offs: event, contestant numbers, and room number. IT IS ESSENTIAL YOU REMAIN IN THE CAFETERIA AFTER ROUNDS. IF YOU ARE CALLED TO A RUN OFF, YOU MUST GO IMMEDIATELY TO THAT ROUND. FAILURE TO SHOW WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.
4. This tournament carries the infamous motto of “Hurry up and wait.” It will be a VERY long day…there are usually several ties that have to be broken, and results are double and triple checked because of their importance. You can help the process by reporting to rounds on time and remaining in the cafeteria after rounds. Bring homework, books, iPods, games, puzzles…anything to pass the time.
5. At the awards assembly, we must present ourselves with the level of respect and decorum expected of our group. We will all be excited to see who will be competing in Medina the first weekend of March at States, but please remember that all the other schools are excited too. For the past couple of years, when announcing qualifiers, the District Chair has said the name of the school first, then any and all qualifiers from that school- meaning that if we shriek after the first name, we may miss OTHER names that have made it as well! Please be respectful and wait until all names have been read.
6. Observation is NOT allowed at the tournament in ANY event.
7. Help us with judges! We will be expected to supply several as we are one of the larger schools- ask parents, siblings, neighbors, other family members, etc. We need all the help we can get!

CVCA/Stow Tournament Results, & a Holiday Reminder
Once again, a fine performance from our team this past weekend at both CVCA and Stow. First, thanks to everyone who helped with setup and cleanup of the Stow tournament- including all our parent volunteers! Thanks also to Boosters for running concessions.
And now your results, ladies and gents…
STOW
Matt McBurney/Rebecca Messinger: 5th Place, Public Forum
Max Williger/Matt Molinaro: Quarters, Policy
CVCA
Sabrina Noble: 2nd Place, Oratorical Interpretation
Keith Foster: 2nd Place, Dramatic Intepretation
Matt Sindelar/Kelly Hawes: 3rd Place, Duo Interpretation
Kim Hall: 3rd Place, Prose/Poetry
Team Sweepstakes: 3rd (tie with Wooster)
I wanted to note about CVCA — scores were ALL OVER the place in all events for all competitors. There were a lot of upsets all around, so don’t be disheartened if you didn’t do as well as you expected.
Winter break is upon us, and I think it’s the right time for a hiatus- we’ve been going strong the last 2 months and it will be nice to relax a little bit. However, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be practicing (or researching/writing cases in the case of debate). I am more than happy to meet with squads and/or individuals over break. My cell phone is 330-842-0259. If you would like to set up a time to work simply call me and we will figure something out. I know right now there is a tentative “all team” practice set for around January 2nd, but Karuna, Carleigh, or one of your other officers will post with more information soon I am sure.
Again, great job, keep working, and Happy Holidays!!!!!!
