Squad Leader/Officer Meeting and Kimpton Show

Hello,

There will be a Squad Leader/Officer meeting this Thursday, April 24th after school. We will be discussing the Kimpton show on May 12th. Please keep in mind who you would like to perform a portion of their piece and which Public Forum pairings will give an example of a Grand Crossfire. Also, if you cannot make it to the show, designate a squadling to briefly explain your event. ALL STATE QUALIFIERS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

Elections

First of all, I would like to congratulate everybody who competed in the State Tournament in March for doing such a great job! Several of our students broke past the preliminary rounds and all gave a stellar performance. Chris Vasquez- 3rd, Student CongressMatt McBurney & Rebecca Messinger- Octafinals, Public Forum (also National Qualifiers)Karuna Ramcharran- Semifinals, Original OratoryMaggie Miller- Quarterfinals, Prose/PoetrySamanta Franchim- Quarterfinals, IX In more recent news, elections are coming up. First, we will have elections for President, Senior Vice President, and Junior Vice President on Thursday, April 3rd after school. Please attend to hear the candidates and participate in the question and answer period. If you cannot make it, you may cast an absentee ballot on Friday. Elections for Historian, Secretary, and Treasurer will be the following Wednesday, April 10th. Candidates: remember to turn in your intent to run forms fully signed before Election Day.  Please remember to turn in your Banquet ticket information and money by Friday. The catering service needs a definite head count, so we cannot accept any money past Friday. Each ticket is $17.

Practice this week

Hello! Littles is this week! MAKE SURE you practice and put any polishing finishes on your cases/pieces. Debate, please try to get some practice debates in this week and work on your respective topics. IE, first of all, thank you for those of you who attended this past Saturday’s practice. Practice this week will be extremely tough because many coaches will either be helping prepare for Littles or judging on Thursday, so 1. if you sign up for a time slot to be heard, PLEASE ARRIVE AT THAT TIME. We can’t afford to go hunting for people when its their turn. 2. make sure you are heard by your squad leaders. Please fix anything that you feel needs working on, because you will not be receiving ballots back from Littles or Bigs. Most importantly: HAVE FUN! Our season is winding down, so let’s make the most out of our last couple of tournaments.

Spotlight on Stow

We need people to help with Spotlight on Stow this Wednesday at 7. Basically, you come, explain what Speech and Debate is about, hand out flyer, and smile :). It should go until about 8:30 or 9. If you can’t stay for the whole time, feel free to work in shifts with a friend. And there’s a plus: YOU GET LETTERING HOURS!!!!!!!!! It goes under the service points on your nfl accounts on the NFL website. Please TELL ME if you would like to help.
